Incarceration and Breaking Through: Community, Leadership, and the Reality of Second Chances 

Leadership isn’t defined by a perfect past. It is often forged through adversity, accountability, and the willingness to keep moving forward. Communities become stronger when we build pathways for people not only to recover from mistakes, but to contribute meaningfully afterwards. 

Join us as we explore a topic that touches nearly every community in Colorado but is rarely discussed openly: what happens after incarceration, and what it takes to create communities where second chances are possible. 

Mayor Duane Gurulé of Rocky Ford will offer perspective from his remarkable journey from incarceration to elected office in a conversation centering human potential, service, resilience, and the shared work generating opportunities for redemption and contribution.

Stacey Putka is the Executive Director of Breakthrough, an organization working alongside individuals as they navigate rehabilitation and re-entry. She will share insights how community, employers, and service organizations can help justice-involved individuals move from surviving to thriving.
